Chetumal, Mexico

Thursday Nov. 30, 2006

The road from Palenque to Chetumal was long and unusually fast across the lowlands of the Yucatan peninsula. It was along this highway that Chris and I decided it was time to go our separate ways. We had enjoyed each others company in Puerto Vallarta, but as we traveled together we realized that our schedules were just a little different.

I chose not to go further north into the touristy areas and was looking forward to getting into Belize to see the tropical Caribbean. Upon arriving in Chetumal, my first impression of the coast was of slight disappointment as there were no beaches. It was here that my laptop's power converter/charger kicked the bucket and I spent the better part of the next day finding a replacement for $120 US before riding the last stretch of Mexican road over the bridge into English speaking Belize.

And so ends the North American stage of my journey. After 67 days of travel so far, I'm looking forward to Central America.
